There is now a Census Consolidated Patch v2 for Summer Release 2018 (patch 24330) is necessary to correct the issue in the SIMS application for schools receiving error 1992 when running School Census.

This error is incorrectly produced when a year 12/13 student has left the school during the 2018/2019 academic year prior to the Census date even though hours are present.

Unfortunately, there are two actions necessary for dealing with validation error 2712.

  1. Application of 'Census Consolidated Patch v1 for Summer Release 2018' (patch 24323) is necessary to correct the mistake in the SIMS application.
  2. Import of Fileset 1006 to provide version 1.4 of the DfE validation is necessary to correct the mistake in the DfE validation.

As you know, we recommend that pupils are admitted on the first day they can attend the school and not on an earlier date that might have been defined as the start of the academic year but is not a day a pupil could attend the school, e.g. a holiday or a staff training day. Failure to follow this advice can lead to DfE validation problems for School Census. We believe that the following excerpt from the DfE School attendance Guidance for maintained schools, academies, independent schools and local authorities is in line with this recommendation. Cick here to view.

Expected First Day of Attendance

Schools must enter pupils on the admission register and attendance register from the beginning of the first day on which the school has agreed, or been notified, that the pupil will attend the school.
