National Insurance Rates for 2018-19 in SIMS Personnel

Another year, another set of NI figures for you to enter into SIMS Personnel

Exciting news as always in the SIMS world, with the new NI figures being available (This year with fewer bands).

Unlike previous years though there is a patch that can be applied to your system that will fill all of this in for you! (we hope and pray there’ll be something similar for pay scales at some point, but let’s not hold our breath!)

If you would like the patch applied to your system and you have an SLA with us please contact us as usual and we can get this done for you overnight.

For those of you who want to enter this information manually, or just want to see what’s going on here’s the table and instructions for doing it manually. The table is based on Capita’s interpretation of the NI Guidance for Software Developers Effective the Tax Year 2018 – 2019 published by HMRC.

The following table displays the new rates:

Monthly earnings Employers Contribution
Band Upper Lower Contracted In Rate 1 Contracted Out Rate 2
1 503.00 0.000 0.00 0.00
2 702.00 503.01 0.00 0.00
3 3863.00 702.01 13.80 13.80
4 0.00 3863.01 13.80 13.80

Please note: A ’rounding’ difference may arise for some employees of approximately £1 – £2 per month. If the above table is entered in Personnel with a Start Date of 06/04/2018, the April 2018 National Insurance projections will be slightly different to those in the following months. To avoid this situation, enter the table with a Start Date of 01/04/2018.

To update SIMS Personnel with the new NI rates, you can follow the steps below:

  • In SIMS, go to Tools | Staff | National Insurance Rates.
  • Click on the ‘New’ button and type in the start date and enter 4 for the no. of bands
  • Enter the table values as shown above
  • Save your changes.

As always please contact us if you’d like any assistance on the usual number 0345 222 1551• Option 3 or email
